Bring wine country into your backyard and create your own "House Wine"

Enjoy a mini-vineyard in your own backyard (or front yard) or at a cottage. Rather than mowing huge expanses of grass, consider putting in a few rows of grapes for their beauty and taste. Even a small city property can install 6-12 vines that eventually could produce 2-6 cases of wine per year.

The key is choosing the right grapes, the best location on the property and protecting these grapes from the weather and animals.

This is not a new idea. Immigrants from Italy and Germany have been planting home vineyards for two hundred years, but new grape varieties and expertise from the Finger Lakes will boost the next generation of backyard vineyards.
